Advent - 1

Photograph by Syd Spence (thank you Syd)
Isaiah 9:2
The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
Isaiah 9:6-7
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.

At Fancy Pans today, and by popular demand, we have Butternut Squash soup - click here to read all about it.

As it's 1st December those that have will be opening the first door (or window) of their advent calendar and probably finding a chocolate treat inside. At Fancy Pans we shall celebrate each day of advent with carols, poems, and readings the odd story and, of course, scrumptious food.

I have been making Christmas cakes today as I like to offer a slice of rich fruit cake with afternoon tea and, if it's your fancy, a slice of Wensleydale (Wallace's favourite) or a strong cheddar, or a nice crumbly Lancashire.

Lancashire cheese photo by W P Clipart - thank you

I'll let you have the Christmas cake recipe tomorrow

  1. Cake and cheese offered together always remind me of the stories of James Herriot!
